Thank you to the lovely Rosie from A Little Lusciousness for the #fdbloggersGTK nomination. I've only been blogging for 3 months so there really is no better time to abuse this very brilliant hashtag set up by Loriley, who started the ‘#fdbloggers’ community of food bloggers. The #fdbloggersGTK is a way of getting to know even more bloggers out there whether its reviews you are after, new recipes or you are just a bit nosy, this will take you down a food related internet rabbit hole...Anyway here goes this is my #fdbloggersGTK post!
- What was your reason for starting a blog?
I have always loved hosting and creating food for people to really get stuck into. The type where you start at 5pm with a glass of wine yourself as your make the final preparations before a flurry of friends fall through the door. You sail through nibbles, 3 courses and countless bottles of wine and maybe even your boyfriend thinks he has become some sort of mixologist/ magician and can make ANYTHING in the booze cupboard taste great. Above hosting, comes creating for me. I have an office based job and the blog allows me to create recipes, cook them, style them and photograph them – it’s the perfect creative outlet!
- What’s the dish you’re most proud of?
I made my brother's wedding cake this year (3 tiers of chocolate & hazelnut, lemon curd & drizzle and carrot & orange), that was really special and a very proud that the whole thing got eaten. I think the dog ate some of it too, does that count...? It also had over 4kg of butter in it which has to be some sort of world record.
- What one kitchen utensil could you not live without?
My hand blender, which I adore for soups and sauces. It's also got lots of attachments including a whisk and a mini food processor thing which I love for chopping herbs, garlic,and nuts etc.
- You’re stranded on a desert island. What three ingredients do you take with you?
Stock cubes (heathen, I know...), toasted hazelnuts and top notch extra virgin olive oil. I reckon those ingredients can make even the yuckiest things taste good.
- Who do you take inspiration from?
Really it is anywhere! Books, other blogs, restaurants, markets, people... the list goes on. Often recipes are devised from a taste I have tried or something someone has told me about. I went to the market today and saw so many amazing stalls selling all sorts from kale, to cheese, to sausages and I just wanted to cook everything then and there - like a greedy kid in a sweet shop.
- Your favourite social media platform?
Instagram. I just love getting lost in all those wonderful food pics and it's a great way of discovering new and interesting foodie things and people. I could spend hoooourrs on there.
- Biggest disaster in the kitchen?
I made blackberry and elderberry jam once in my parents’ kitchen which, most impractically for me, has a very pale work surface. I had a jam disaster and the purple liquid just got everywhere. Ceiling, floor and totally engrained in this blasted work surface. I was there for days before they got back from holiday scrubbing away. Which in turn dyed my hands purple.

- Favourite food photo you've taken?
My learnings with a DSLR will never be done, but I am slowly getting to grips with the manual settings....I think this one below is my favourite – Eton Mess Cupcakes. It was the most beautiful summers morning at 6am and the light was just perfect streaming through the window. I often get up early to work on my blog before going to my real job. I really enjoyed the styling and smashing the gooey meringues everywhere too. Messy is best!
- What would you say was your most successful blog post and why?
My Charlie’s Chicken post was pretty successful, probably because it is full of pictures of my brother and I as kids - padded Alice bands were very de rigeur! Chorizo and Sundried Tomato Scotch Eggs have been the dish most made (to my knowledge by my followers) and Ultimate Chocolate Cake had a massive surge also. No matter how healthy you want to be , nobody can resist a dirty, oozy decadent slab of cake.
